Richard Thompson (musicista)

Richard John Thompson (Notting Hill Gate, 3 aprile 1949) è un chitarrista e compositore inglese.

Come chitarrista si notano le diverse influenze del suo stile (che spaziano da Buddy Holly e James Burton fino a Les Paul e Django Reinhardt) e la sua predilezione per l'improvvisazione che preferisce rispetto agli assolo.

La sua prima registrazione avvenne nel 1967 come componente dei Fairport Convention.^[1]

Nonostante i suoi album da solista (spesso realizzati in collaborazione con la moglie Linda) non abbiano mai raggiunto un successo commerciale importante, è considerato un songwriter di alto livello^[2] e un ottimo chitarrista, sia dal vivo che in studio.^[3]

Attualmente continua il suo lavoro di compositore, registrando nuovo materiale e tenendo concerti.

Nel 2010 è stato più volte ricoverato per via della sua dipendenza dalla cocaina.
