James Simon Rix (born 18 October 1977, Otley, West Yorkshire) known as Simon, is the bass player for popular British band Kaiser Chiefs and is famous for his large curly hair and led to the nickname 'curlywand' amongst friends.. He went to school at St. Mary's Catholic High School, Menston, West Yorkshire with Nick Hodgson and Nick 'Peanut' Baines, who were also founding members of Kaiser Chiefs. Simon played in bands around the Leeds Music Scene before joining Parva in 2000. Following Parva's release from their recording contract with Mantra recordings in 2002, he ran local venue Joseph's Well, the location of Kaiser Chiefs' first ever gig in 2003. In December 2012, Rix stood in playing bass for New York band, Here We Go Magic, on their support tour in the UK with Elbow. Simon has a small collection of musical equipment including many guitars but most commonly plays his 1971 black Fender Precision bass known as Old Faithful or Fender Pino Palladino Signature Precision Bass.
Away from music, he studied mathematics and geography at Leeds University, follows football and is a lifelong supporter of Leeds United.
